Calle's Cucina
           Calle's Cucina is a community focused, BYOB restaurant in the heart of Charles Village. We are located at 2431-2433 St. Paul Street, between 24th and 25th streets in the location formerly occupied by the Yabba Pot Restaurant and directly across the street from Charles Village Discount Liquors.

Owner and Chef, Carl Vahl, a resident of Charles Village. There are no distant shareholders or limited partners. There are no six or seven figure CEO’s or Vice Presidents who rule from distant corporate headquarters. The staff comes from Baltimore. The kitchen equipment was purchased locally. The ingredients will be purchased locally, whenever possible at a reasonable price, except for Italian specialty items such as extra virgin olive oils, meats and cheeses and other imported ingredients needed to prepare authentic Italian cuisine.

Chef Calle

             Chef Calle received his formal culinary training at la Scuola Internationale Di Cucina Italiana, known as Alma, located in Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi, Colorno, Parma Italy. Alma is the world's leading international educational and training center of Italian Cuisine which educates chefs and sommelier from all around the world.
          Alma
is located in Parma,  in the region of Emilia-Romagna located in the Po River Valley in northern Italy. Emilia-Romagna and the Po Valley is internationally famous for its cuisine and legendary Italian DOC and DOCG products such as Prosciutto de Parma cured ham and Parmesan-Reggiano cheese and the true Balsamic Vinegar barrel aged from 12 to 25 y
ears.

          Prior to Alma Carl attended the prestigious International Culinary Center, home of the French Culinary Institute and the Italian Culinary Academy, located in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City.

After his formal training Carl apprenticed at “Alla Lanterna” a highly acclaimed fresh seafood restaurant located in the Le Marche region on the Adriatic Coast of Italy which is known for having the finest fresh seafood in the Mediterranean.

CHOWHOUND REVIEW

Four of us dined there a few Saturdays back. While the service has a few kinks to work out, the food was EXCELLENT. The smoked seafood plate appetizer was elegantly presented and and had amazing flavor. Polpette meatballs were spicy and swimming in a fresh tomato sauce. The Tile fish, new to everyone in our group, was well received and simply prepared- pan sauteed in olive oil. Husband proclaimed his roasted pork chop to be the best pork chop he'd ever tasted. After dinner, the owner came out to speak with us and shared his food philosophy with us- he only prepares the freshest foods using the best ingredients he can obtain. Clearly, this is his passion. Reservations are STRONGLY suggested- they are on Open Table, which is how I originally found them and was scratching my head about the location, but once you step inside it's like another world- beautiful artwork, simple place settings and elegant presentations. Calle Cucina is BYOB and there is a liquor store directly across the street. We will be back soon and I recommend you get over there as soon as possible. This place is a treasure.

          Calle's Cucina will be open as follows: DINNER: Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5:30 pm. to 10:00 pm. PIZZA, LUNCH, COFFEE, DESSERT AND SNACKS: 11:30 am to 3:00 pm. Wednesday to Saturday. SUNDAY BRUNCH from 10:30 am. to 3:00 pm.

          TAKE AWAY AND DELIVERY

         Calle's Cucina is also an art gallery featuring local artwork from fine local artists. We are currently featuring Robert Brent, Daniel Pham and student work from the Baltimore Lab School.
